At least one cat can perceive one of those patterns-that-look-like-they-move images. Click here for the one I think is in the video below, in case you want to try this out:
It’s every cat owner’s duty to try it out on their own pets. For added laughter data, try putting a bunch of them up on the walls of a hallway at cat-level and see if your feline friend can pass them by without pouncing. 
It’s interesting to ponder if the cat was just goofing off and got bored or if said cat eventually figured out that there was something very off with the paper illusion and then got bored. Given the propensity for “Goofing off and then getting bored” I’d give it even odds.
