Our crows aren’t nearly this much fun.

Kansas City is about to get about a foot of snow, and as is usual when it gets cold, many of our parkways and trees are playing host to crows who enjoy the slightly warmer city air to that of the countryside. Anyway, here are some Russian crows who show they really know how to have fun in the snow:

For the record, those are Hooded Crows.
There was another video last year where they showed crows sledding down roofs in Russia. They would get to the top.. slide down, fly back to the top and do it again.
Corvid intelligence tests passed again?
Interestingly, i just finished watching a Nature documentary on PBS. Apparently, crows are arguably the brightest birds on the planet. There’s even documentation of them creating tools. The full episode can be found at http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/
Yep, hooded crows are fun to watch… I was quite fascinated by them during a recent trip to eastern Europe.
That said, they’re not a patch on the kea, New Zealand’s mountain parrot. Those birds are absolute fiends – rather than sliding down the windshield, they’d have been taking the cars apart, starting with the wipers and roof rack, and moving on to the window frames…
