It’s about to hit the Shodan…

I’ve never played System Shock 2, which is apparently on the order of admitting one never played Doom. It was released in 1999, which, if I remember correctly, was just when I’d moved to Kansas City and had a clunkier Pentium machine as my only computerized form of entertainment. I think I just missed it, and by the time I would’ve jumped at getting a copy, it was already on the way out of stores or being overshadowed by other titles. I may have been well underway to really being bad a playing Civilization III at that point.
Anyway, System Shock 2 has been in legal limbo for several years, but its saga of litigation has finally allowed for it to be available at Good Old Games for about 10 bucks. I’m going to give it a whirl and occasionally post about it here, because that’s why we have the internet. I am going to install a recommended graphics improvement mod, partially because I like pretty graphics but also because said mod corrects a few continuity errors and typos (which are, to me, far more immersion-breaking than pixilated faces).
Over the years, I’ve been made aware of a spoiler/twist ending concerning this game, but I don’t think that’ll dampen my enjoyment of it. From what little I’ve garnered, I’m kind of amazed this hadn’t been made into a movie, since it seems like a better, yet similar, plot to several mediocre sci-fi horror films. Maybe now that the lawsuits appear to be settled, that’ll happen.
Now I just need the installer to finish downloading…

System Shock 2 is one of the best shooters I have ever played. You should enjoy it just fine, even with the time lag.
The system shock series hsa long been one of my favorite. The first, of course, was epic beyond belief and the second was pretty nifty all in all!
I remember SS2, in so far as I only got through about 5 minutes of it before the audio started giving me nightmares.
WHILE I WAS AWAKE.
