A Thursday potluck…

• And you thought the efforts to lock down the design of their devices was extensive. Apple has trademarked the interior bits of their stores. Where do you put the little “TM” or “R”? The restrooms?
• Here’s a set of photographic instructions on how to make your own book. That’s the construction of the physical book, not how to put the little marks on the pages and what have you.
• Courier is dead, but the Matrix of Font Leadership has been passed on to Courier Prime!. It’s basically a slight beautification of the standard Courier font for screenplays and what have you. I just thought it sounded like a Transformer and had to post it. Sorry.
• I think it’s only a concept, but it shouldn’t be long before this object is re-branded as Cthulhu’s Bathroom Helper or something similar.
• Behold the exquisite chessboard (and other games as well) that King Charles I took with him to his execution. Checkmate, it would seem.
• And here’s a point-n-click adventure that’s part psychological thriller and part puzzler, Traumata. Try to uncover the main character’s past while trying to overlook that to talk to other characters, you have to “use” them.

Thanks for the font! My computer is a Transformer now!
The book instructions are very nifty. A couple of things they overlooked, though:
- That must be pretty expensive cardboard if it has fibers aligned. Ditto the paper. Most consumer-grade stuff has randomly-oriented fibers if I understand correctly.
- Unless you spend far more time stacking the pages than I was able to with my own project, you’re going to need to put the completed book (without covers) through a “stack cutter” to trim the three free edges. This is what lets you properly riffle pages, which is more important than it sounds (it’s part of what lets you turn to the next page instead of having a group of pages turn when you try).
Definitely interesting, though, and the “stitch by stitch” line was a nice touch.
how do you copy write “looks like it was bought at ikea” ?
A copyright is not a trademark, that’s how. Apparently their trademark applies to the combination of all the parts, not each individual idea on its own. And apparently Microsoft already trademarked the interiors of their Apple-inspired stores? Or so some of the comments claimed.
