And every time someone calls the show “PPG,” I think they’re talking about the guns on Babylon-5.

Remember the Powerpuff Girls? They were the kind of My Little Pony of their day, attracting a very broad audience, including a substantial male demographic. It was also one of the few network TV shows actively poking fun at anime tropes, especially dubbed dialog, for which I still salute whoever wrote Mojo Jojo’s verbose utterances. Well, if you remember how they looked, hold onto that memory, because a CGI TV-movie is on the way and (as you can see at the top of this post) the girls are being re-imagined a bit.
This isn’t the first movie for the characters, as they got a motion picture released in theaters back in 2002. It grossed only $16 million on a budget of $11 million, which confused many who thought the demographics should have enticed more people into theaters. I only have the word of one marketing person who works in Los Angeles for the odd movie project, but they were of the opinion that it didn’t do well because the male fans weren’t willing to show up in public to go see a movie that might earn them odd looks. As a long-time fan of many an animated TV series that (mostly) unsuccessfully tried to leap to the big screen, I always found myself wishing they’d just taken the money and given me another season of my show.
This is not to say I wouldn’t welcome a two-hour movie based on either Freakazoid or Earthworm Jim, because of reasons…

Freakazoid or Earthworm Jim…(Sniff)…I Miss youuuuu!…
Yeah, both shows need at least a DvD release.
Ever see Dave the barbarian? Lot of the same folks behind EWJ, including Jeff Bennet, who did the narration on DTB and EWJ.
He does such a great John Cleese (EWJ) and John Reys-Davies (DTB) I thought it was them, till I read the voice credits.
You missed a close tag in this post. /i needed….
Thanks for catching that. I fixed it for Aaron.
Fans of Earthworm Jim should really check out Nnewts, http://nnewts.com/
or the equally TenNapeltastic Ratfist.
