I decided to cruise by Steam and look at things I could feel proud of myself for not buying when I looked at the “top sellers” tab and saw something I found rather odd:

Yes, Euro Truck Simulator 2 is, as of this post, the #1 seller on Steam. It’s also got a Metacritic rating of 78 from critics and 8.8 out of 10 from players/users. From what I can see, this is the trucking fan’s version of that Railworks simulator and its mountains of DLC. This isn’t the kind of game I’d pick to play, but if you’re tired of stealing work-related vehicles so you can drive a taxi or an ambulance in Grand Theft Auto IV, then this might do the trick.
Looking at the game’s (the following is not intended as a pun) trailer, there’s an extensive “dress-up” aspect to the game (which is nothing like designing costumes in the recently-ended City of Heroes game, so shut up), which might be where some purchasers find their muse. Anyway, trucking fans can rejoice that they are outselling triple-A titles at only 10% off.

Last months issue of PC Gamer (UK Edition) really liked it. the reviewer talked about the fact that they had an “oh poop” moment when they realized they were driving on the right instead of the left and it was wrong was kinda funny.
incidentally if you want a good PC gaming mag go with the UK version. i picked up a copy of it while i was in the airport on my way back from vacation. the writing is better and the layout seems to be better. i actually have a digital subscription from zino on my kindle. its great! also they seem to be obsessed with mincraft.
I don’t believe it, myself, but I notice a work colleague has, unexpectedly (it isn’t his normal genre), purchased it. I plan on finding out if he is a closet truck spotter when I next talk to him.
